Unique, Natural &
100% Ugandan
Naturaleaf
was founded in the year 2000 by Canadian Annie Pageau to provide
training, employment and a source of sustainable income to a
community of Ugandans, mainly women, from the village of Namulanda.
Harry & Anne Abels
who own the AK97 Crafts outlets in Kampala are the new owners
of Naturaleaf and they employ about a dozen full-time workers
as well as providing income opportunities for local farmers who
supply the company with many of the raw materials required in
natural paper production. In addition Naturaleaf acts as Uganda's
only paper & cardboard recycling centre for many of the organizations
and offices in and around Kampala.
All our products are
made by hand, from the cutting of the fibres into small pieces
to lifting the screens with pulp on to be dried in the sun to
crafting beautiful and unique products. All the raw materials
and processes involved are natural and environmentally friendly.
Natural fibres such as banana fibre, elephant grass and pineapple
tops are combined with recycled paper & cardboard to produce
our innovative range of papers.
Our handmade papers
are available as A2, A3 and A4 sheets or cut to specific sizes.
We are also able to design and print custom-made wedding invitations,
announcements, restaurant menus, corporate stationary, display
boxes
if it's made from paper we can make it!
We also arrange and
run workshop days for school groups or children's birthday parties,
where everyone gets a chance to make some sheets of paper and
then transform them into an item such as a photo frame or writing
set.
We hope you enjoy our
digital catalogue, please remember that if you see something
you like it can be made or applied to any product, alternatively
if you have ideas for your own design we will happily try it
out. In addition, as our papers and products are made from entirely
natural materials, colours may vary from what you see on screen,
this quality is an intrinsic part of each item and gives our
products their unique, original, handcrafted appearance.
Finally, thank you
for your support & interest in Naturaleaf and if you have
any queries please do not hesitate to contact us.
All
of our products are hand-made, from the paper to the binding
of books. We use available material such as banana fibres, papyrus,
elephant grass and recycled paper to produce attractive and unique
craft.
